B’nai Mitzvah

Russell Industrial Center, Detroit

For the B’nai Mitzvah of history buff twin boys, in a family with a strong lineage of U.S. Army service, we transformed the raw Russell Industrial Center of Detroit into a realistic and multi-faceted base camp, inspired by the family’s recent pilgrimage to Normandy to tour the infamous sites where their ancestors fought and served. Guests, dressed in “camo chic”, were first escorted to a ceremony where the family’s heritage and faith symbolically broke through and rose from the rubble. From there, cocktails were hosted in the base camp’s rec area, complete with half pipe and fatigue-clad skateboard trick artists who wowed guests before they were ushered to the heart of the base camp for dinner. There, guests were free to explore various zones like the infirmary and general’s office, all named in honor of famous U.S. Army heroes and ultimately, all guests – young and old, came together on the central dance floor to enjoy the jams from the watchtower DJ.
